I love how everyone’s opinion of A Trivial Pursuit, be it positive or negative, is, “Well, at least it’s not as bad as 2, 4, 6, Great.” High praise indeed. 😛
This week, with a title like that, this episode had better deliver.
Well, thank heck. I’d been fearing the whole “Grogar and the villain gang” season arc set up in the premiere had been completely forgotten.
The funny thing is, I’m sitting here going, well, last week’s episode was bad but welcome because it wasn’t as bad as the week before. And this one’s loads better than those two, but is it good?
I’m not sure. It’s certainly not bad. Probably not even ‘meh’! There were a lot of bits to like, I’m just not sure how much they cohere into a whole. Will probably have to watch it again to be sure.
The one thing really sticking in my mind is how this A) sort of redoes the season premiere vis-a-vis Celestia and Luna announcing their retirement as though they never had, and B) gives Twilight a character arc that includes three episodes instead of, y’know, nine seasons. The whole time they were talking about how much she used to panic at the drop of a hat, they literally just reference episodes in this season. It makes said arc very oddly compressed.
But yeah, good parts included “Nopony does frills anymore,” the designs of the weather manager and the lead fireworks pony, and Cozy Glow breaking a lock using a book with a key on the front. I also highly appreciate that Discord was not a dick or even much of a goad for once, for all that I cannot fully process his “character growth is so boring” gags. Twilight’s proclamation at the end was also a pleasant surprise. Like I said, lots of good moments, I’m just not sure how they present as a whole.
Also, this can’t have possibly been about Bronycon, but it’s so about Bronycon.
