Regardless of what you thought of Growing Up Is Hard to Do, we can all agree Sweetie Belle is best adult pony, right? Right?
This week… well, just look at that episode title. We all know what’s going to happen. I just hope it’s better than the episodes about the same thing which preceded it.
Well, they finally did an episode with a romance theme and got the message right. And that’s probably the best thing about this one.
That’s not to say there was nothing to like. Discord’s apple gambit was highly entertaining, and the “I thought we were just saying each others’ names” gag was hilarious. I’m glad we got to experience it twice. The flashback framing for the story was used way better than it was in Saddle Row Review. Also, Mrs. Cake is 100% adorable, and it was great seeing the ponies from Starlight’s village there at the end for Sugar Belle.
I guess if anything was off about this, it’s that it’s a retread of all the other SugarMac episodes. Granted, that’s the whole point, but it just left me wishing those had been better. SugarMac is a much better pairing than either CheeriMac or MarbleMac for multiple reasons, but the episodes related to it have generally been super crap. At least this one broke the curse, even if the wedding scene didn’t exactly have me tearing up.
Also I would like to remind all those rabid Fluttercord shippers still frothing at the mouth over what Angel said in that one episode that this one just reinforces that he does not like, understand nor care about love.
On the whole, this was okay. Could have used fewer Star Trek jokes.
…Oh god, the show’s over next week.
